To My Australian Bunnies

If you live in or around Sydney CBD, please stay safe. That location is not safe due to a hostage situation in the Lindt store.

Update: Three people were killed, one of whom was the captor.

Finals Week for Bunny!

Hey, darlings! It's finals week for me, and maybe some of y'all. So I think I oughtta give a few tips!

  1. It's been proven that the calmer you are, the better your performance. Not saying you should be drunk or smacked before a test, but you shouldn't be freaking out either.
  2. Chew gum for 5 minutes before any exam!
  3. If you've an essay, make sure to proofread that baby! Ain't nothing worse than sending in an essay with bad grammar.
  4. Get all your feelings out before the test. Cry, scream, throw a tantrum. You deserve that.
  5. Treat yourself to a massage afterward!

Book Review #2

Good morning, y'all! Finals are next week, so wish me luck on that! Now I finally read "Warm Bodies", on which the film was based, and oh, my word! For the most part, the movie remains true to the book. The protagonist, R, is more sentimental than the average corpse, to where he falls in love with a Living girl named Julie. It's gross, but cute, and so beautifully written that I got through it without throwing up.

SPEAKING OF zombies, another great one: "My Life as a White Trash Zombie" is about a self-described "loser" named Angel who wakes up after a car crash with a new job, a new lifestyle, and a craving for brains. The story follows her as she comes to terms with the fact that she's not human anymore.

Yeah, if you don't know, I'm fascinated by zombies.
Any recommendations?

A Rabbit's Rant

On Wednesday, a grand jury in Staten Island decided not to indict the police officer who killed 43-year-old Eric Garner with a chokehold. Garner's crime? Selling loosies, or individual cigarettes, on the street. He did not resist arrest. You can find a video of Garner's final moments. The coroner ruled it a homocide, but the officer still walked away scot-free.

This is one of many high-profile cases of police brutality involving a person of color and a white officer. I know that those who choose to comment on this post will be up in arms on either side. I am a black woman, so I could play the race card. But I will not, because that's not my issue here. My problem is that there was more evidence against the cop than there was evidence in his damn favor! For God's sake, there's video, and there were more witnesses than there were in the case of Michael Brown. They indicted the cameraman but not the fucking murderer.

I am ashamed to say that these are the people chosen to "protect and serve" the cities in which they live.

Traveling for Turkey Day!

Good morning, dolls and dudes! It's the day before Thanksgiving and I know some of y'all are traveling Please be advised of the following:

  1. Winter Storm Cato is here on the East coast, so there may be delays at airports and bus depots. Please be careful on the roads, dears.
  2. Same weather but less dire n the Midwest, Tennessee Valley and Ohio Valley. Drivers beware, though. Also snowing in the Rockies.
  3. Tomorrow, Cato will be gone, but you'll need to bundle up. In the Pacific Northwest, there'll be rain and/or snow, but elsewhere will be pretty warm. So to my West Coast darlings, drive safely, and keep warm!
  4. And for the love of Bettie, please be careful on Friday if you're going shopping!
I wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving and a great start to the holiday season!

Holiday Cheer!

Awwww yesh, it's the week of Thanksgiving, darlings! So, I'm gonna tell you what I'm thankful for.

  • My family. My mom and mommy have been nothing short of supportive and caring throughout these 18 years of my life. My brother and my twin sister have taught me more than any book ever could.
  • Lip gloss. Seriously, I cannot wear a fancy outfit without the stuff.
  • My friends. They were my shelter during many storms, and I was there for them. I've even served as a stylist for some of my chums when prom came around. They haven't judged me for my fascination with rockabilly, either!
  • Spotify. It's the only way I listen to my music. And no, I am not paying for that crap!
  • Unique Vintage. Without them, what would I be blogging about?
  • Last, but not least, you, my wonderful readers. It's been a blast having you all here reading my stuff, otherwise I'd just be some crazy kid on Blogger.
Share what you're thankful for in the comment section, and do so politely! Hoppy Thanksgiving, my loves. Until Next Week!

Book Review!!!

Hi, y'all! First, I want to thank all the wonderful people who participated in the Covenant House Sleep Out last night. It was an honor seeing how much people care for homeless youth.

Now it's time for Bunny Marie's first ever book review! I have two books to speak on (and my reviews will be positive because I only hated Twilight with a burning passion!).

First: Zombie Notes is a study guide including classic novels with a paranormal twist. The book doesn't violate the stories, but they were a lot more fun. For instance, in The Scarlet Letter and Werewolves, Reverend Dimmesdale is a werewolf eluding death, and Pearl has inherited his fur, claws, and taste for human flesh. It's actually really cool, but it retains the essential points of the stories

Next, my new favorite, "Elvis Culture" by Erica Lee. Not specifically about the King, but about the legions of fans and how they honor Elvis Presley. I learned quite a lot through it. Did you know there are Churches of Elvis? Most of us aren't that extreme to where he's a god, but it's real. It's a good read, and it's very cool to see just how people feel about Elvis and his music.

Go look these books up until I get the other books I ordered. Ciao!

LBD (Lovely Black Dresses!)

No closet should lack a black dress! Thanks to Unique Vintage, you've got one less problem! Here are four gorgeous ebony numbers for any party! Or just to wear to class!

The Mia dress is one hell of a dress! It's adorable with it's ivory crochet collar and slim silhouette. Great for date night or work!
The Vogue dress is a stunner with bows and Lycra! However, use caution and a body shaper, as the dress is extremely tight and hugs every inch of the wearer's waist.
This dress right here is definitely on my wishlist! It's flattering and fabulous-- And sure to grab attention, so don't wear this to an interview!

Winter Wonderland!

Yes! The holiday season is just around the corner, and with it come chances to shine brighter than a Christmas Tree. Here are two lovely dresses from Unique Vintage and Corset Story to stand out at every party!

The Sweet as Pie dress is a gorgeous little number that's great for...basically any occasion! Yes, it said party dress. But who says not to throw a cardigan over it?

And what's the holiday season without a red dress? Corset Story just released this and many other cute skirts, dresses, and more importantly, outerwear!

If you want, rock them to the parade!

Ice Breaker time!

Good morning, dolls and dudes! Today you'll learn more about the lady behind BFF.

My name's Rebekah Marie Byrd. I'm 18 and from New York City! I'm currently a college freshman and a robotics mentor. I love coffee and fashion of all kinds. No, I don't dress like a rockabilly, but I am precisely that! I'm also an artist. I started this blog out of my love for clothing and music from the past and present (which is why Daddy Yankee is on the same playlist as Pearls Mahone!). My favorite singers are Elvis, Wanda Jackson, Ariana Grande, Tevin Campbell, Bruno Mars, and Rio and the Rockabilly Revival.

Your turn, y'all! Until next time, feel free to comment some details about yourself and make friends with other readers.

Announcements For the Dolls and Dudes!

Tomorrow is Election Day almost everywhere! If you haven't registered, please do so for next year! I am not yet registered, but will be soon. If you are a registered voter, please be sure to do so! Find out where you can vote and do it!

Now, it's time to post for the fellas reading! If you're looking for a place that sells strictly rockabilly clothes, unfortunately it's not happenin'. The sites that sell clothes for dudes also sell punk and psychobilly gear. The good news? It's simple. Find inspiration from Cats Like Us! and Grease, Gas, and Glory. And buy your girl something cute while you're at it!

Got the look down! Share your pics with me! Be sure that the location tracker is off before you take photos!
