Ice Breaker time!

Good morning, dolls and dudes! Today you'll learn more about the lady behind BFF.

My name's Rebekah Marie Byrd. I'm 18 and from New York City! I'm currently a college freshman and a robotics mentor. I love coffee and fashion of all kinds. No, I don't dress like a rockabilly, but I am precisely that! I'm also an artist. I started this blog out of my love for clothing and music from the past and present (which is why Daddy Yankee is on the same playlist as Pearls Mahone!). My favorite singers are Elvis, Wanda Jackson, Ariana Grande, Tevin Campbell, Bruno Mars, and Rio and the Rockabilly Revival.

Your turn, y'all! Until next time, feel free to comment some details about yourself and make friends with other readers.

Special Report: The Suicide Roll!!!

Okay, dolls! Before I start, please be advised that I will be away due to a medical emergency, but I'll come home to y'all Wednesday with some more stuff. Love y'all!
This hairstyle, the suicide roll, is basically just one big victory roll. Amy Heidemann of Karmin, Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguilera, and Demi Lovato have rocked this style and I found a tutorial by Glitter Sends The Gleam, and it's detailed! Hm... maybe I oughtta give it a go.

YOU WILL NEED:
- Comb
– Mousse
– Bobby Pins
– Hairspray
STEP ONE
Section off the front section of hair, what would be the “bangs”. Basically as wide as the bones of your forehead, and three inches back. Comb them forward. Make sure they are centered. Use the tail of the comb to clean up the lines.
STEP TWO
Gather the rest of your hair in a ponytail or bun — any way that it is out of the way!
STEP THREE
Rub a quarter-size dollop of mousse between your hands and run it sparingly through the section of hair. It shouldn’t be goopy or wet, but the flyaways should be firmly reigned in!
STEP FOUR
As you are running the mousse through your hair, use your fingers to scrape the hair to one side — whichever side your hair tends to part is easiest.
STEP FIVE
Wrap the tip of the section of hair around two fingers as though beginning a pin curl, and roll it up, not letting any hair escape. This can be tough if you have distinct layers, as I do, but if you can’t get it all to curl together, apply some more mousse to the tip.
STEP SIX
Turn the curl in the direction of the cowlick as you roll it up, so that it resembles a flat pincurl as opposed to one that stands up.
STEP SEVEN
Pin the pincurl in place. I used about three bobby pins. Make sure to hide them underneath the hair. The goal is to pin the curl to your hairline so that it stays in place. Fiddle with it a little, roll it up tighter, make it in the center of your forehead, catch any flyaways. You do not need to pin the outside of the curl, the next step will take care of that…
STEP EIGHT
Spray the crap out of it! I prefer using a non-aerosol spray, but both work. Spray directly on the curl, flattening it to your forehead with your hands. No one’s going to be touching it and it needs to stay in place, so don’t be afraid to really spray that sucker.
STEP NINE
Let the rest of your hair down, and style it as you like. It looks best curled, and you can do multiple things with it, but I personally like it best with a high curly ponytail.

That's an awesome roll! If you try it, post pics! Be polite, and please disable location tracking before posting. Ciao!

Simple Hair for Busy Girls

Good afternoon, dolls! Today I'm sharing a simple trick for looking lovely when time isn't on your side. It's a look I turn to if I'm busy, lazy or fighting with my hair. Be sure to detangle and comb your hair before you start.  You'll need
a teasing comb,
a rat-tail comb
a brush,
bobby pins or a headband,
and if you want, hairspray or pomade.

1. Tease all your hair from the root, using a teasing comb or hairbrush. It looks awfully wild, and that's why you don't stop there. :)

2. Part the sides of your hair. You'll be pinning those back later.

3. a. Spray your hair or use a bit of pomade. b. If you don't use these, brush your hair back with hair gel or water.

4. Using bobby pins, put back those locks of hair you parted earlier. Alternately, put a headband on!

Instant bombshell! :)

Get Your Halloween Gear!

You're into vintage clothes, I know, otherwise you'd stray as FAR away from this blog as you can. And you wanna own Halloween again, while not being overly costume-y. I totally get that. So, here's some cool stuff I found while browsing the internet, as always. Remember: I don't own any of these things. I'm just a college kid. The stores are listed as UV (Unique Vintage), PUG (pin-up girl), LB (Lindy Bop) and CS (Corset Story)

Heartbreaker Super Spy Dress (PUG) is adorable! It's very Audrey, and one of the models on the site looks like Bettie Page. It only comes in sizes for thinner or plus size women. http://www.pinupgirlclothing.com/heartbreaker-super-spy-dress.html

The Unique Vintage Going Steady Taffeta Party Dress (UV) is meant for dates and prom! I wish they had these in May! But they're incredibly pretty and come in ivory, apricot, black, and aqua. This link is for the ivory dress. Perfect for weddings, and it comes in colors for brides, bridesmaids, and guests! Before I forget, if you use the code STEADY50 at checkout, that's 50% off the purchase! http://www.unique-vintage.com/ivory-taffeta-strapless-party-dress.html

Black Steampunk Skirt and Black Velvet skirt (Both CS) are not rockabilly/pin-up, but they sure are cuuuuuuuute! You can wear it for a costume party, and then break it out whenever you want or need to be in all black everything. Don't forget to find some gloves!

Blouse: http://www.corset-story.com/black-elastic-sleeves-steampunk-shirt-sp012bk.html

Tell me what you think of them if you buy any of these pieces!

xx, BM

PS: I didn't go to NYFW after all.

Bettie Bang Tutorials!

What lovely pin-up queen had the most AMAZING bangs ever? Well, yeah, Rosie the Riveter, but I was referring to Bettie Page! Don't tell me you didn't want her wowtastic bangs and curls. Here's how you get them!

Bettie’s Hair Color

If you truly want to get the Bettie look then you’ll need raven black hair. You can do this yourself with a semi-permanent or permanent blue/black or jet black dye or go to your local salon if you’re not feeling too brave. If you have a pale complexion and/or blonde hair then think carefully before you dye it black. Black hair dye doesn't fade out, you have to grow it out so you’ll have to be fully committed if you decide to change the color.
Bettie Style Fringe
Bettie Page Style by Sydney Stoopes

Bettie’s Bangs

Bettie’s look was all about the bangs (or fringe). Legend has it that she was told she had a high forehead and was advised to cut herself a fringe to disguise it – her short fringe then became her trademark and something she is remembered for to this day!
To get Bettie bangs you should take a photo of her into your local hair salon and ask for a fringe cut about 1/2 inch above your eyebrows and curved up in a U shape – it’s better to find a good reputable vintage salon as they really know how to create this look. Once you have your Bettie fringe you’ll need to keep it regularly trimmed to maintain the shape.
The best way to style this type of fringe is to curl it under with a hot iron so it has a slightly bevelled edge. Another way of doing this is by curling it under whilst drying it with a hairdryer, using a medium rounded hairbrush. Finish with a spritz of hairspray.

Bettie’s Soft Hair Curls

To get Bettie’s soft waves you’ll need hair pins and hair mousse or setting lotion. Add the mousse or lotion to damp hair and divide your hair into 1 inch square sections. Wrap each piece of hair around your finger creating a curl that lies flat against your head – secure with two pins making an X shape. When you have finished all of your hair, wrap a silk scarf across your head to protect the curls. You can either sleep on them overnight or wait until it dries naturally. Once dry, remove the pins and brush the curls out so they are soft and natural looking. Et voila! You now have Bettie curls.
Don’t forget to add lots of hairspray to your hair to keep the curls and bangs in position.

Here's a bonus: Her makeup!
The Makeup
To get the Bettie look you’ll need an eyebrow pencil, eyeliner (preferably liquid), mascara, foundation and red lipstick.
First make sure you put on a good matt foundation – the paler the better as Bettie was renowned for her alabaster skin. Next your eyebrows will need defining, take a look at Bettie on the internet to see her eyebrow shape – they were slightly on the heavy side. Use your pencil to thicken your brows and create more shape. You don’t want it to look too fake though so keep the shape similar to your real brows and just use the pencil to fill in any gaps and create more shape.
Next you’ll want to draw a line with your liquid eyeliner along your upper eyelid and flick this out towards the outer edge to create a cats eye shape add lashings of mascara to finish this look.
Finish with fiery red lipstick.

Now that you know how to be Bettie, get started!

I Love Lucy (And her hair!)

Lucille Ball's hair was the object of my envy, and I'd love to have my hair like that. She's had several fabulous styles, and here is a tutorial I looked up because I can't do hair to save my birds.

http://sailingoveracardboardsea.blogspot.ro/2011/02/hair-lucille-ball.html

And here are just  videos of Lucille at her finest.

The second link was, in my opinion, her best episode. It led to several remakes, including an episode of Drake and Josh involving sushi and stolen furniture.
